Bright Midnight

by NeverFlyte

I am from dinner sizzling on the stove
my sister enhanced by the blaring TV
the meows, bings, and pops
of IMs jumping on to my computer screen

I am from a stray cat yoweling
the street lights playfully flickering
an occasional sired, roaring with anxiety

I am from the hunger books bring
when they're left unfinished
dragging me away
to a different world
where black font becomes color

I am from endless days of learning
the hustle in the hallways
the warm, flowing smell of Z****'s Pizza,
the quadratic formula overtaking my mind

I am from the snowless winters
where the smallest of breezes
are the closest we have to cold
